Nearly eight months since the LSU football team won the BCS National Championship against Ohio State, tremor waves are still being felt throughout the LSU football community, primarily in recruiting.

Yesterday, another tremor took shape as Miles received a verbal commitment from Rivals 250 wide receiver Kenny Bell.

Bell is a four star prospect from Rayville Louisiana and fielded offers from the likes of Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas before narrowing his options to LSU and Alabama before finally choosing LSU.

Bell is the first receiver of the current class, but LSU is widely considered the favorite for Louisiana native and Rivals five-star prospect Reuben Randle.

All-in-all, the rich continue to get richer in Baton Rouge. With two five-star prospects already in the bank and eight four star prospects, the 2008 recruiting class figures to possibly be one of the greatest in history.

Fall practice has been underway for a few days now and the Tigers have looked like any typical team figures to look while juggling the rust of having several months off.

I will give you guys little tidbits or chunks of information about practice each day as we head closer to the season, so let’s get that started today.

LSU Fall Practice Daily Dime:

1. The quarterback race remains fairly close, but Andrew Hatch has a firm lead on the starter’s position and barring an injury or minor miracle, he figures to start in the team’s season opener.

2. Watching LSU’s first team offensive line grapple with LSU’s first team defensive line is like watching two heavyweight prize fighters get bloodied up for 15 rounds with the undisputed title on the line. It really is a joy to see.

3. If people want to look for things to be worried about, be worried about the defensive backfield. The cornerbacks have not looked up to par yet in practice. Is it good receiver play or poor defensive back play? We might not know until the season starts, but the corners have been the squeaky wheel so far.

I’ll give you more information tomorrow!

Our pick’em game continues today and we’re in the eighth game of the season.

The biggest game I will tackle today is the Florida/Georgia game.

I see the two teams as being very evenly matched. But I think the Gators will be playing with revenge in mind and will wallop the Bulldogs thanks to the Dogs’ classless antics in the same game this past season.

Top 10:

We going to continue our Top 10 countdown today of the 10 best NFL players.

Today’s pick took the NFL by storm this past season and is number one on some Fantasy Draft boards. Could he also be a future teammate of Brett Favre? We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose.

No. 8 NFL player: Adrian Peterson

Peterson dominated the NFL this past season, wracking up 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns while also missing time with a knee injury.

Peterson enters his second season with many around him talking about a 2,000 yard season. With a dominant offensive line and more talent around him than this past season, the former OU standout may be able to pull it off.

But hater warning: I have never been on the Peterson bandwagon. Dude has never made it through an entire season without getting hurt in his entire career. I worry about how long he will be able to compete at a high level before his body breaks down.

No. 7 on the list will be revealed tomorrow.

Headlines:

Phelps gets to Beijing unnoticed – Athletes like Michael Phelps and Tiger Woods are proof that a superstar can maintain privacy if they really try hard enough. Bring home the gold, Phelps. You deserve it!

WR Smith apologizes to Panthers
– It may already be too late. For a team that at best was going to be 9-7, losing their best player for two games is a very steep penalty.

NFL rules Vikes did not tamper with Favre – So the alleged phone calls from a Packer distributed cell phone to the Vikings did not actually happen? Say it isn’t so!
